Proud of our roots

The history of our university goes back as far as 1823, when the municipal polytechnic was founded – the eldest of our ancestor facilities.

The world famous physicist Georg Simon Ohm, eponym of our university, worked here from 1833 as professor of physics and mathematics. From 1839 to 1849 he was university principal.

The Greek omega in our logo stands for the greatest discovery by Georg Simon Ohm: The law of electrical resistance, U = R ∙ I. Omega has been the international unit of electrical resistance since 1893.
