University entrance restricted to subject-related qualification (also called "Fachabitur") qualifies for studies at universities of applied sciences as well as for taking specific courses at universities. The basic cases are:
- Completion of class 13. of the Berufsoberschule with one foreign language
- Completion of class 13. of the Fachoberschule with one foreign language
- Report of the restricted university entrance qualification after having passed your supplementary examination in conjunction with the graduation report of a public or stately-recognized subeject-related academy showing an overall mark of ""sehr gut"" (excellent) in both of the two reports
- Preliminary diplom of a course at a university of applied sciences.
For graduates of the Berufsoberschule subject relation results from § 6 Nr. 1, of the the qualification regulation, for graduates of the Fachoberschule from § 6 Nr. 5 i.V.m. § 6 Nr. 1, and for graduates of the Fachakademie from § 6 Nr. 2 and for preliminary diplom of a course at a university of applied sciences from § 7 Abs. 1 letter a) dof the qulaification regulation
The possibility to change to a university having passed the preliminary diplom of a course at a university of applied sciences does not exist in all federal states of Germany and if so there will be other subject relations than in Bavaria. The law of higher education of the "Freie Hansestadt Hamburg" has a special feature allowing applicants to a change without subject relation provided they have a preliminary diplom of a course at a university of applied sciences and belong to one of the 25 best graduates.
