Tuition fees starting in summer semester 2007

Why were tuition fees introduced?

The Georg-Simon-Ohm-Hochschule Nürnberg is fulfilling a requirement of the legislation governing higher edeucation in the Bavarian state. Article 71 of the legislation governing higher education in the Bavarian state demands the introduction of tuition fees with the aim to improve the conditions of studying at the universities.

Where is the fulfilment at the Georg-Simon-Ohm-Hochschule Nürnberg defined?

On 31 July 2006 the senate of the Georg-Simon-Ohm-Fachhochschule Nürnberg approved  "articles concerning the charging and usage of tuition fees at the Georg-Simon-Ohm-Fachhochschule Nürnberg" (pdf)

What are the tuition fees used for?

The resources are used to improve the conditions of studying and the quality of course offerings to 100%. A central levelled committee, consisting amongst others of three student representatives who can participate with their right to vote, decides how the tuition fees at the Georg-Simon-Ohm-Hochschule Nürnberg are to be used. The faculty council and the students decides at faculty level.

Examples for the usage:

  • Improved support with apprenticeships and internships, e.g. by introducing tutorials
  • modern equipment for the individual faculties
  • longer opening times, and more new books in the library
  • intensive consulting in the student office
  • improved data processing

Who has to pay the tuition fees?

All students studying in order to obtain a degree, a bachelor or a consecutive masters.

How muh are the tuition fees per semester?

Students at the Georg-Simon-Ohm-Hochschule Nürnberg pay 500 euros tuition fees per semester starting from the summer semester 2007.

Who is exempt?

The legislation governing higher education in the Bavarian State provides exemptions of payments for students who, for instance, are on holiday semester or doing an internship, as well as for students who are raising a child under ten years of age.

The Georg-Simon-Ohm-Hochschule Nürnberg has developed its own extensive concept for exemption. Within this exemptions are granted to sutdents who commit themselves to the self-administration of the university or to students who absolve their studies within a regular period of study and who are in the top 10% of their year or absolve their final thesis abroad.

Student loans

In order to finance the tuition fees students can take out a student lan at low interest from the LfA Förderbank Bayern.
