What IB students say about us

Olga (23), Belarusian

I was born and raised in Belarus where I finished high school and entered a university. After spending one year in the US as an exchange student I cancelled my studies in Belarus and decided to start from scratch in Germany.

I was always keen on studying International Business in the country where such business is developed. Plus I wanted to have an internationally recognized degree which could support my mobility in the job market. The determinants for choosing IB Program were no doubt the possibility to study in English and relatively low tuition fees.

I am currently in my 5 th semester doing an internship at Allianz SE in Munich. I work with Financial Effect Controlling team. The industry of insurance is very specific and it is enjoyable to acquire understanding of how it works.

During next semester I am planning to finish the courses of advanced module and to start with my Bachelor Thesis. I must say that IB Program offers sufficient flexibility for students to design their study process in the most comfortable way.

On the academic side I find it particularly strong that professors are highly competent both in theory but and in the field. We have smaller class sizes and participative method of teaching. As students we experience a high level of exposure to all possible cultures of the world. This ensures a truly diversified environment and creates atmosphere for intellectual as well as intercultural exchange.

On my graduation I would like to start off in financial services industry. I am quite positive about  finding a job and believe that knowledge and experience gained through IB Program will be helpful in fulfilling my career plans.

Carolin (23), German

Before I graduated from secondary school in Germany, I spent a High School exchange year in New Hampshire, USA. Right after my graduation and before starting my International Business studies I completed a 3-month internship at a major automotive OEM, which gave me the opportunity to gain first experiences in the business.

I knew that I wanted to study at a University of Applied Sciences, as I appreciated the practical approach of studying (internship semesters, small class sizes). I chose to join the IB Programme because it offered small groups, classes in English and an international environment. This would also be a good way to distinguish myself from many other students studying "plain” business administration.

Currently I am in my 8th semester with International Finance and Global Management as my special fields of study. I spent two semesters at our partner university in Nancy, France, to receive a second degree next to my Diplom. Furthermore, I completed two internship semesters abroad: one at Volkswagen of America in Detroit, USA and one at the Volkswagen Group China in Beijing, China.

Having almost finished my studies in the IB Programme, I am able to comment well on its opportunities. I especially liked studying in an international environment and in small classes. Communication with university staff was fast and easy and I had the chance to spend four semesters abroad.

Finally, I will write my thesis at the logistics department of Audi where I will be able to manage a scientific study of my own, the results being implemented at a global player in the industry. After graduating, I would like to join the automotive industry, either via a trainee program or a direct entry.

Milan (22), German

I was born and raised in Nuremberg, where I also finished high school. As you can tell from my name, however, I am not German. I am half-Serbian and half-Croatian, my parents come from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

I completed a 2 ½ bank apprenticeship in Germany and - after that – I gained some professional experience in consulting of private and business clients in financial matters.

I knew that I wanted to study Business, but I also knew that I didn’t want to follow the standard path of other 1 million business students in Germany. I wanted to do something different. I liked the international aspect of the IB Programme a lot. When I did a student exchange to the UK, I experienced a very international study environment, which I found to be fascinating. Also the fact that due to the small number of IB students I would be able to study in small groups and build a good network with my fellow students, enforced my decision to apply.

I am currently in the 5th semester of my studies and doing an internship. I am interning with HypoVereinsbank in New York City, where I am working in the Acquisition & Leveraged Finance group, which finances private equity fund acquisitions.

And I can tell you, it is true: New York is the city, which never sleeps.
When I finish my internship in New York, I will be going to Mexico to study one semester at our partner University, Tec de Monterrey. I am really looking forward to living and studying there!

Kelly (23), Canadian

I was born and raised in New Brunswick, Canada, where I also obtained my high school diploma. After high school, I moved to Nuremberg, Germany to get a more so global perspective on the world and to broaden my horizons.

The International Business Programme brings young minds from all over the world together. Unlike other BA degrees offered in Germany, we get a very broad perspective on business issues and matters from all over the world. I also chose International Business because of its practical approach.

I am currently in the sixth semester and spending my semester abroad here at the GSO Hochschule. International students have the option to do their semester abroad here at the University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg and to take courses from the regular business programme in the German language. This gives international students the perfect opportunity to improve their German language skills, and to learn more about the German culture.

Small groups are something which I greatly appreciate about the IB Programme. Most of the IB Professors know us all by name, which makes for a friendly atmosphere

After I have finished my semester abroad here in Germany, I will travel to Quito, Ecuador for a language course to freshen up the Spanish which I have learnt here in the IB Programme. I will then finish my remaining advanced courses, and write my thesis which will pertain to business relations between Canada and Germany.

After my internship at the Canadian German Chamber in Toronto (Canada), I now know that business development is the right field for me.

Tobias (22), German

As a native German, I passed my A-levels in Germany. During my school time I took part in various language courses in England and the USA. Prior to my studies in Nuremberg, I participated in Disney’s Cultural Representative Program in Florida, an international program lasting 12 months. During my stay at Walt Disney World I was able to gain business insight and I also completed several internships before starting the IB studies.

After working abroad in a multinational environment I could not imagine doing run-of-the-mill studies, therefore my attention was immediately drawn to the IB program. I especially liked the small classes, the high percentage of international students and the fact that all lectures are held in English. At the same time, I was motivated by the certain outlook for two more stays abroad.

I am currently doing my practical semester in Barcelona at the headquarters of a boutique hotel chain, the Stein Group, where I am placed in Corporate Controlling & Reporting. I will spend the following 5th semester of my studies as an exchange student at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.

Mona (22), Canadian

I was born in Iran however moved to Canada when I was 3 years old and I lived in Toronto till I was 11.  Then I went back to Tehran (Iran), where I went to school and learned the language and the culture till I was 15 years old. Then I came to Germany and I finished my high school in Stuttgart.  After having finished my high school I had the opportunity to obtain a one year internship with DaimlerChrysler Middle East in Dubai.

Having had a very international childhood and youth, it was very important for me to study in an international atmosphere, to continue learning several languages and getting to know different cultures. Besides, since I was 9 I just knew that business was what I wanted to do. And the internship definitely confirmed my interest in business. I found IB the excellent program for me since it combined two of my main interests. Due to the IB reputation, I am lucky – while studying - to be able to work part time at Siemens.

During my fourth semester I had the opportunity to obtain an internship with Fiat Automobile Group in Frankfurt; I decided to do my internship in Germany in order to get to know the German Business mentality better. After my internship I came to Spain, Cadiz for one semester of studies there at our partner university, which is located right in front of the beach ;-) After my studies in Nuremberg I will most probably be heading back to Canada in order to obtain my Masters there.

The family-like international atmosphere in IB is very much enjoyable. While walking through the hallway one hears many foreign languages and has the chance to meet numerous interesting people. The various partner universities of IB are just fantastic and they give the students the opportunity to gain intercultural experience all around the world. Besides this, I also appreciate the educational aspect very much and I am happy about the high standard of education held by both the IB students and the academic staff

I am not completely sure yet, but I could imagine a career within the Automobile branch.

Evelyn (22), German

I was born in Germany but, due to relocation of my dad, I grew up in Florida/US. After graduating from high school I participated in a Work and Travel Program in NY/USA where I was able to gain practical work experience in an international business environment.

I chose to apply for the International Business Program because I am able to obtain a broad and well-founded knowledge base covering all fields related to international business processes. I also am able to collect practical work experience in the mandatory internship abroad and I am given the opportunity to spend one semester at St. Louis University and experience daily campus life in the United States.

Right now I am spending my 4th semester of studies in Atlanta/GA interning with Siemens. I work in Finance and Marketing and I enjoy being able to apply my theoretical knowledge and experience daily business life in an internationally operating company.

I really enjoy studying in an international environment, as it gives me the chance to get an insight into different cultures, customs and differences concerning business practices all over the world. The international aspect, especially the internship and study semester abroad, will widen my horizon, strengthen my personality and help me to concretize future career aspiration.

I am sure that all of the above mentioned will help me to pursue my career in an international working environment outside of Germany after successfully completing the International Business Program.

Elin (22), Singaporean

I was born in Singapore, however due to my father’s work I have spent my first half of my childhood in Germany. I was therefore brought up between the German and Chinese culture. Back in my home country I attended the German European School Singapore where I graduated with an Abitur. In the same year I started the IB course.

Having lived in different countries with totally different cultures and attending the German European School Singapore, where multiculturalism is part of the daily life, I have build relationships to many cultures, many which are assimilated into my experiences.

After moving from Germany back to Singapore at a young age I always knew that I wanted to return to Germany for my studies as I felt very at home there. But after being exposed to such a heterogeneous surrounding I also knew that I wanted something more than just a normal business course. This is how I found my way to the IB family.

Being an international student in a course with just 50 people is very helpful. It feels as though you always have a big family around you. In addition to that lectures are more personal which makes the learning experience livelier.

I’m currently doing my semester abroad at the Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China. My stay in Hangzhou is very interesting and knowledgeable. My future career plan is still a work in process. What I do know is that I would like to work in an international company who has strong ties between Asia and Germany.

Denise (20), German

I was born and went to school in Germany. After graduating I did an internship in the automotive industry.

As during my school time I enjoyed so much being in touch with the English language, after passing my A-level I looked for a degree course which combined languages with business studies. The International Business Programme, matching these two interests of mine, seemed at once the right for me and so I applied and was very happy to become a part of the IB-family.

Currently I am in my 2nd semester, still in Nuremberg. What I like most about IB is that already during the studies I have the opportunity to interact with people from all over the world and I guess that this will be a great advantage in my future career. The next step in my studies is to pass all exams and then apply for an internship and the semester abroad which I want to spend at the Nancy University, in France.

It is too early to say what I will do after finishing my studies, because I am just at the beginning of my studies and have to make more experience to decide about my future life.
