MIFE Course Structure

MIFE encompasses a wide range of subjects that provide students with a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of international financial economics. They include key theories and concepts as well as the ability to apply a significant range of professional skills, practices and techniques in finance departments of multinational companies, international banks or other global institutions.

The Program is a full-time, 3 semesters program consisting of two taught terms and a thesis term. It is based on core modules and a Master Thesis. To find out more about the modules with their various subjects, please read below.

Module: Foundations

The courses of this module are to prepare the floor. Students learn how to conduct quantitative research and solve business and economic problems. Participants are introduced to quantitative methods as well as enabled to prepare and analyze financial statements of global firms. Besides these technical and analytical skills, social capabilities are developed in subjects like corporate governance and business ethics.

Module: Strategic Management

The courses of this module are to deliver the management background necessary in a globalized world. Students are prepared to successfully apply strategic tools and techniques to international settings and to competently analyse global contexts and assess MNC options. In various study cases students learn how to apply academic models to real-life or case-simulated international business situations.

Module: International Economics

This module provides the economic specialization graduates do need. The global economy is analyzed from an economic perspective. Students learn how to use quantitative methods and key indicators in examining, assessing and categorising country risks. The peculiar problems of international cooperation and development are analyzed. Electives allow gaining expertise in subjects like e.g. European Monetary Policy, Macro-Finance or Institutional Economics.

Module: International Finance and Investment

To deepen students’ understanding of concepts, theories and instruments in corporate finance and investment analysis, this module familiarises participants with methodological and mathematical underpinnings of diverse financing alternatives. Students are provided with a satisfactory knowledge about issues like value driven leadership, modern management tools applying EVA, and economic profit. Intensive training in assessing exchange rate risks will enable students manage exchange rate risks. The target here is to learn how to bridge the gap between performance measurement and business evaluations. Electives like Value Based Management, Private Equity, Technology Financing or Mergers and Acquisitions, Management of Financial Services or Derivative Products allow students to specialize in their fields of interest.

Module: Applied Research

This module reflects in particular the applied research focus of this programme. Students are enabled reflect and apply academic concepts and theories to real problems and issues. In their research participants are guided by competent staff.
